We enjoyed the Free Spirit Bilbao walking tour of the old town area with Miguel. Seeing the red umbrella in the square, set us up for a great tour. He was charismatic and engaged with all members of our group. The Basque nation have a great Ambassador with Miguel. He recounted the history and today's governance with enthusiasm and pride. Great tips on modes of transport, sights not to be missed and places to enjoy food and drinks. We highly recommend this tour.

Miguel is one of the best guides i have ever seen in all my days on this planet.

He explained the whole history, and gave us an in depth analysis, tour and reccomendations while still being extremely entertaining and easy to follow!

The guy pours his soul into the craft. Our trip wouldn't have been the same without going on this tour. It gives you a new perspective on things and you get a proper plan on what are the things to do and the things to skip.

I suggest you book it first day in your trip to make your experience worthwhile!

The best walking tour with Miguel! We are a group of 6 friends and joined Miguel for the Bilbao immersion with drinks and pinxtos. He talks about his city with knowledge, love and passion. We learnt so much, not just about the history, but also about the culture, the people and the local way of life. Miguel also shared great local tips about transport and places to visit. I would highly recommend doing this tour early in your visit to Bilbao. Miguel helped us get to grips with the city and we felt so much better equipped to plan the rest of our stay. On October 23, 2024, my husband and I joined Miguel for the best walking tour EVER! The location was old Bilbao. Miguel’s an extraordinary guide who gave us an unforgettable introduction to Basque history and culture as we walked through the charming streets of the old town. This was no dull recitation of dates and facts, but rather, an engaging, fun outing with a new Basque friend and several other English-speaking walkers whom we met just that day. Miguel exudes a true appreciation for Bilbao and its people. His style is authentic, charming, humorous, and informed. It was easy to see that he enjoys sharing this special place with his tour groups, and genuinely delights in chatting with us as a group and also separately as individuals. In fact, he had as many questions for us about why we were there and where we were from as we had for him. He had great recommendations for other Bilbao excursions on our own. The pace of the tour was flexible for everyone’s needs and desires. So we stopped in at pastry shops, dawdled through the marketplace, and took water or bathroom breaks as needed without affecting the rhythm of the experience. I only hope that we can return to Bilbao to enjoy the pintxos, basque cheese, and the charms of the city many more times (we’ll schedule another tour with Miguel!). And for sure we will try to attend an Athletic Club football match, so popular in Bilbao and the pride of Basque Country (and Miguel).

This walking tour is essential for anyone who is new to Bilbao and wants to learn how to best experience the city, and to understand the history of the Basque region. Miguel was our tour guide and he is exceptional in this role. His comprehensive knowledge of the Basque region, the language and the cuture, and the way in which he presented the tour was really excellent. The humor with which he described and explained things was brilliant. We got lots of recommendations about places to visit and places to eat, and how best to commute around the region. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and I will recommend anyone visiting Bilbao to check in with Free Spirit Bilbao and organize a walking tour of the Old City.

Loved the gastronomy tour with Miguel. He is interesting, respectful, full of knowledge and experience. His pride and passion for all things Basque makes you fall in love with Bilboa.
The tour is centred around the history of the city and region, the people, the food, the here and now. We were just going to go for the free morning walking tour, but changed to the gastronomy one to experience pintxos, and were so happy we did.

Miguel provided an excellent tour - the best we've had in any city! We were happy to tip him well. Miguel taught us about the Basque language and culture, including features of the area that were integral to the creation of that culture. He was very pleasant and easy-going, with excellent English. He explained how the transit system works so we were able to explore the city fully on the following days. Highly recommend!
