I have had a wonderful experience renting a BMC roadbike from Vuelta Turistica. The bike was in great condition, and I was able to trial both the Roadmachine and the Teammachine on consecutive weeks. Walter and Rueben were great to work with, and were excellent mechanics. This is the second year in a row that I have rented from this shop, and I highly recommend them for your cycling needs!

I asked for a different replacement wheel as there was an inner tube with deep set valve in place, which did look unasthetic. I am on holiday, taking photos and yes unsuprinsingly, I would like the bike to look nice. I don't think that is too fussy? When you pay a lot of money to have a nice ride, in sunny weather, I think it is O.K to ask for a nice looking bike.

You then replaced the first broken wheel, with a second broken wheel. This is absolutley not good service or safe. That is the bottom line.

Always check your wheels!

I hired a bike for one week and on my very first ride, a spoke on the rear wheel came loose. Luckily, I was able to temporarily secure it by twisting it around another spoke.

When I returned to the shop and showed them the issue, the mechanic didn’t apologise, he simply said, “That’s not ideal.” They replaced the rear wheel and I headed back out.

The next day, just a few kilometres outside Calpe, I got a puncture in the rear tyre. While changing the tube, I noticed cracks around several spoke holes in the rim. Honestly, it was shocking, it looked like the wheel could fail at any moment.

I cycled straight back to the shop and explained what had happened. Another mechanic checked the wheel and said, “Yep, this one is broken as well.”

Making this mistake once could be considered unfortunate. But twice? That’s careless and potentially dangerous.

This is clearly a very busy rental shop, and you won’t get much personal attention. The bikes are heavily worn and don’t appear to be properly maintained. It feels like the high turnover means basic safety checks are being overlooked.

There are plenty of other, and better, bike hire shops in Calpe. I strongly recommend going elsewhere, these bikes simply don’t feel safe.

To make matters worse, I didn’t receive an apology until I returned the bike on the final day. There was no offer of a refund or even a small gesture of goodwill for the inconvenience and risk.

A real shame.

The best-kept secret in Calpe for performance cyclists!
While I already had a rental bike from another shop (simply because I wanted the exact geometry I ride at home for a week of 100km+ days), I came to Vuelta Turistica specifically for a wheel upgrade. Most rental shops in the area—even for high-end specs—only offer basic alloy wheels with cheap tires, which can feel sluggish on the big climbs and descents here.
I was able to rent a pair of DT Swiss carbon wheels fitted with Continental GP5000 28mm tires for just €50 for 7 days. Honestly, it was an absolute bargain and the single best upgrade I could have made for the week. The difference in rolling resistance and handling on the descents was night and day.
The shop itself is great—very clean, professional, and the service was quick. If you are serious about your riding and want more than just 'stock' equipment, definitely check these guys out for their component rentals. Highly recommended!

The rental service itself is efficient and the bikes are OK (I’ve used rental services where the bikes were maintained in an almost obsessive way; these are reasonably well kept, but I must say that everything works very well). The bikes are handed over quickly, and in less than 10 minutes you leave the shop with a ready-to-ride bicycle. Prices are good for the type of product offered.

However, the service feels very “aseptic” and not particularly friendly: customer interaction is almost nonexistent. No advice or suggestions are given, which is a negative point, because customers might not think of some useful things on the spot.

The mechanics, although efficient, interact very little and sometimes seem to judge you for every choice you make.
Aside from the limited interaction, the staff proved willing to accommodate requests.
